Hi, looks like you are making great progress, are you restoring both old boats as a lot of the parts dont look like they are off my boat?

In progess of making deck mould now, which is very interesting. Needs a bit of thought, but getting there. I also have located an engine for it a 23cc hedge trimmer engine. Not sure if it is even the correct rotation yet, but we will see. It should certainly give it some power if it is the correct rotation.
Anyone into models with any advice on engines. If I go electric I need a 700 watt motor aparently and that will run for about 10 minutes on a £40 battery. The engine will go forever on a thimble of petrol and give more power. It will have to have a water jacket made somehow.

A little more progress, real boat on hold for a while due to personal injury when moving boat about.
Pict01 empty hull, but with waterjet unit roughly installed Pict02 framework for floor and engine, which will be fibreglassed in eventually Pict03 flooring Pict04 decking
These are all very rough at the moment and form the basis of the structure. I need to assemble the boat in very rough form to see if it works before I make the final model.

Hi, The crazing can be sorted with replacement gel coat, which is not too bad a job, but not for the faint hearted. Re the engine cowling, is it a sqaure one or round moulded one?

hi just to update you all.
IVe just had my first run of the season in my dowty ..its late because I had made a silly mistake and I want to share this with you. the boat would not start...because the carb was clogged up with small sediment of unleaded petrol....instead of draining the carb at the end of last year,by turning off the petrol tap and running her dry I left her and the fuel just goes off leeving a sediment enough to stop the fuel. finally I found an excellent mechanic who knows the boat very well...an old naval engineer. the boat is just so responsive and fast like never before..so the renovation work over the last few years has now paid off. I know I said I wanted to sell the boat but I cant....she is a peace of history and you may see her being written up in the press shortly. interestingly she has an unusual engine cover which has been questioned as standard..if you look at the dowty film on the net you will actialy see the exact same cowling as mine so she i absolutely correct and original! Im just missing the rear seats...does anyone have any or know where to aquire them? the only real issue is the deck is crazed in places deep into the gell coat....has anyone got this issue and what did you do? thanks robert

Hi nclesimmonds, and welcome to the forum. Actually, I think we've met before . . . on Facebook, perhaps. Hopefully we can see some photos of your Simmonds in due course.
The narrow engine cover is an interesting note. Not actually sure when the change was made. Might need to do some survey work via the Register and see if we can establish a definitive answer.

Hello all, I have recently joined OSB and would like to register my Simmonds LW111 a Newcastle made craft. Purchased by me some years ago after a lengthy negoitation I am still to get it ready for the water but it is wholly original save the seating and complete if not serviceable. I deem it to be 1960 as it still retains a narrow engine hatch yet is one of those made 'up north'. Colours red/white.

Pictures are limited to reduced size of 110kb and up to 6. If you look at the Dowty page, you will see that reasonable pictures can be placed there.
