Insurance for your classic is very difficult. If it is a ski boat by design (even from the 1930's) you may be able to obtain cover via a few insurers. However many will want a survey on the boat and that could prove difficult, but it can be done. If a 'Boat Safety Certificate' is required, that is difficult, just try getting one of those for an Alby, I have one though.

I am speaking to a couple of insurers due to the interest, but it is early days yet. I need to get a few people on board to prove that there is a need, then we may be successful.

yes, boat insurance can be a problem especially if you need fully comprehensive cover where you will need a boat safety certificate.  For an old boat this can be quite demanding(and expensive).  However depending on what you need the insurance for, some companies will grant you third party cover without the boat certificate provided you get a note from an inspector or equal to say that the boat is in good condition and totally sea/water worthy.

I think something needs to be done about insurance, because most restorers are enthusiasts and unless you prove that the boat is seaworthy it is difficult to get insurance and some people only want to keep a boat and not always launch it.

If you think there is a case for asking a company to insure via the forum, has anyone any idea as to how we go about it, if so I will try to get it from the numbers we now have on the forum.
